UCC had a great turn out for the SLR RR this weekend. Our team had 7 teammates representing UCC (which looked impressive in a field of 40). Tony, Bill, Reed, Jimbo, Randy, Ken, and myself raced the 55+. As the group started the usual occurred, we hit it hard on the downhill and picked up enough speed that Tony got in such a speed wobble he had to come to a complete stop, checked his shorts for brown streaks, than took off again to catch back onto the pack. The rest of the first lap had many attacks, each of which was answered by a UCC team member. No one was going to get away. When we climbed the hill for the first time the group stayed together for the most part. Lap two was pretty much the same with frequent attacks responded to by UCC. I could list everyone by name and describe the details of their efforts to pulling back the breaks, but that would take up a full page. Everyone worked well together to get the work done when attacks occurred.
By the time we hit the hill on the second lap, the pace was pretty intense. Unfortunately it took a toll on most of the team and I found myself in a 15 man break. Just as had occurred in the first two laps, there were frequent attacks throughout the third lap. As we crested the hill on the 3rd lap I ended up in a 6 man break and with about two turns to go, I stood up to sprint to the front of the group and my legs cramped up (lame horse). I ended up just off of the sprint. Awesome job to Ken on his first road race, looking forward to seeing him out more, Fellow Mountain-bike teammate Randy is always great to race with. Tony and Bill were very impressing bringing back the breaks. Nice to have you on our team Tony. Jimbo did an excellent job was coordinating the team’s efforts. I’m only sorry that I wasn’t able to get the win after everyone put in so much hard work. It’s too bad there wasn’t a 60+ class this year. Randy, Reed and Kal would have made an awesome team! I had a great time guys, thank you all so much! -Greg -Great photo’s provided by Diane Darr. Comments are closed.
